Today’s guest is a sales expert and entrepreneur who is worth listening to. Jennifer Diepstraten has been on a twenty-year journey to understand how relationships and communication influences what people do. She spent 12 years in high-dollar corporate sales where she was often asked to train colleagues on how to have conversations that could rekindle stalled negotiations.
Her passion is coaching and mentoring people whose relationships didn’t turn out quite the way they thought they would to create amazing relationships anyway. In this conversation with Maribel Jimenez she shares how her business is structured, the importance of family and personal lifestyle, and some powerful sales tips to help you get your products and services out into the world to help those you desire to serve. Be sure you listen, Jennifer has lots to share.
The tension between business success and personal lifestyle and family
Jennifer Diepstraten was in corporate sales for 12 years. During that time she had multiple opportunities to take job promotions and new positions but she passed up every one of them. Why? Because her family and personal lifestyle was too important for her to give up in order to meet the higher demands of the roles she was being asked to take on. She knew something then that many entrepreneurs are still struggling to figure out. No matter how badly you want or need your business to be successful, you’ve got to make sure that your family and personal lifestyle are not making the sacrifice. Business goals can be met later. Family needs can’t. Hear Jennifer’s contagious approach to focusing on her family while she works on her business in this episode.
Person to person interactions as the basis for a business that sticks.
In this conversation Maribel asks Jennifer Diepstaten about her business model and Jennifer gives an answer that is not very common but makes tons of sense. She explains that her main goal is to get on the phone with a person and discuss their needs. She wants to hear their heart, understand their real problems, and know their needs so that she’s able to see if there’s a way that she can help them. If she can’t, she’ll tell them honestly – and if she can, she’ll tell them that just as honestly. It’s a person to person sales process that has made her a multi-million dollar sales associate in her previous corporate career. Jennifer’s got an amazing free offer for you on the topic of sales and product promotions that you can get by listening to this episode.
Making the most of your hard work by raising your fees
Jennifer Diepstaten has worked hard to build and establish her business, but it wasn’t always the success it is today. She discovered at one point that though she was working hard to make things happen, it wasn’t moving forward as quickly as she thought it would. In time and with some hard lessons learned she came to the realization that one of the main problems was that she wasn’t charging enough for her services… and deeper than that, she didn’t believe that the work she was doing was worth a higher price. It was a mindset shift she had to make; believing that her work was of great value to those who benefitted from it, and changing her pricing to reflect that belief. Hear how she walked that journey and what she recommends about increasing your fees in this episode of The New Super Woman Entrepreneurs.
The biggest sales mistakes that women entrepreneurs (and others) make.
In her 12 year sales career Jennifer Diepstaten was lauded as one of the top sales professionals in her company. She was called on to train others how to sell and build relationships just like she did. So she’s one who can tell us what mistakes are the most detrimental in a sales environment.
Here are the top two she shares in this episode: #1 – Too many salespeople or entrepreneurs never ask for an opportunity to talk about a prospect’s needs, or never ask for the sale. #2 – A frightening number of salespeople do exactly the opposite and pounce on the prospect, instead of asking clarifying questions that would enable them to build a good relational foundation and foster the trust necessary for a long term relationship. Hear Jennifer describe both of these in details on this episode.
