Launching can be a lot more fun than you think!
I find it so rewarding as all the pieces and work come together into making sales, filling a program, and helping people with my gifts. But I know that launching may not be like this for many people.
To help take the mystery out about launching, I’ve compiled the top seven launch questions I get asked most often.
Launch Question #1
“Maribel, I’m kind of embarrassed to ask this, but just what is a launch, exactly?”
Great question! A variation of this question is also “Why should I launch? Why shouldn’t I just put my product on my website and let people find it?”
Here’s the definition of launch: a surge of energy to move or propel something forward.
And in an online launch, there’s an emergence of energy that shares your message with a lot of people in a short period of time. A launch is a way to share your message in a big way, engage with a lot of people, and then be able to nurture the people who want more of what you are sharing.
So essentially it’s a faster and more efficient way to grow your business.
Launch Question #2
“I don’t have a big list. How big does my list need to be so I can launch?”
That’s the wonderful thing about launching: you don’t have to have a list! For my first-ever “launch,” I had a list of 12 people. Through that launch, I was able to take the first steps on the path of building a community of people who are interested in the services I offer.
In fact, launching is a great way to build your list. People opt-in for the gift you’re offering and get on your list.
But if you don’t have a list, or have a small list, you will need to put much more attention on bringing people and/or partnering with others to promote your launch. And get creative! Promotions on social media are great, but don’t limit yourself to only online activities.
I have a client who didn’t have a list for her first launch. She got opt-ins through in-person networking, hanging up flyers, and being interviewed on her local radio station. She was able to grow her list from 0 to just over 300 in about 3 weeks!
And another great way to promote your launch is through affiliates! This involves getting in front of other people’s communities that match your ideal clients.
Launch Question #3
“Maribel, you talk about affiliates or partners a lot. Do I have to have affiliates or partners for my launch?”
Here’s what I say to that, “Why not?”
At the same time, when there’s a will, there’s a way…so really there are a lot of ways to get to your goal.
The goal is to get in front of the right audience….however you do that is great!
For me personally, having partners was the BIGGEST key to growing my community from under 100 to the thousands…in my very first launch and continuously from there.
So, you don’t have to but having partners to help spread the word can really maximize your results. And the way it works is that, for most affiliates, they’ll receive a portion of each sale from any contact they send to you. Which means you have to have a way of tracking referrals!
Your shopping cart might have the capabilities to track affiliate commission or you can use 3rd party software.
I’ll be honest – like a lot of entrepreneurs, I tried to do it all myself the first time. (that launch failed) But I realized that having affiliates means I can reach many more people than I could reach just by myself. So the extra time to support my partners is well worth it – partners allow me to have bigger launches and reach more people than I ever could by myself.
Launch Question #4
“I’ve seen all the emails that come from a launch. Do I really need all those emails?”
I know it can seem like a lot! But think of it this way: you’ve got a great product that can change the life of your prospect. Do you want to just mention it once or do you want make sure the person has everything they need to take the next step if they choose? After all, you really want her to know that THIS is what she’s been looking for! (if they are a match to what you offer)
I know that the emails in a launch can seem overwhelming – both for you to write and for your prospect to receive. But there’s a system behind the emails that really does work.
And on the bright side, after you’ve invested the time to write them, you can just tweak them for the next launch.
Launch Question #5
“I launched once and it was really hard and a ton of work. I didn’t get the results I wanted. Why should I do this again?
Every time you launch it gets better…especially if you have a proven system to guide you. My first launch was painful! (tons of time for little response) It was so painful that (after crying on my knees and praying for an answer) I was determined to figure out why it didn’t work. I didn’t have a system and I didn’t have the audience.
But there’s gold in every “perceived failure”– as long as you learn from it, make the adjustments necessary, you are able to spring forward from that place! If your launch didn’t go as planned, figure out why – fix it, and go forward. As with anything you do for the first time, there’s a learning curve and experience that leads to mastery…it DOES NOT mean that you don’t have what it takes.
Launch Question #6
“How long does a launch take?”
Your timeline will vary depending on marketing you have in place already and what needs to be created. A good rule of thumb is to allow yourself a little more time than you think you will need.
For a strategy session model launch, allow at least 6-8 weeks. For a full program launch model with partners, allow about 4-6 months.
I know that can seem like a long time, but there are a lot of moving parts that you’ll want to work out. And giving yourself the space to create all your marketing pieces will mean they’re better written and actually achieve the results you are after! So in the end, take the time you need to do it RIGHT!
Launch Question #7
“Okay, I want to do a launch. Do you have any resources to help me get started?”
I do! I help people with launching because I know what it’s like to pour my heart, energy, and time, into launching a program and get no sales. AND after years of doing launches and helping others launch, I have a formula to guide you. It includes the core areas to put in place.
