Early in my business my biggest fear was that I would fail. Because I was afraid to fail, I was afraid to make mistakes and so I wouldn’t take any risk and worked really hard to play it safe. It was awful! I worked way to hard and held a lot of fear to lose clients or money and felt a constant anxiousness that I wasn’t enough.
I had to do something about it because I realized that there was nothing to fear as I was already having my fears come true by being afraid of them.
I learned that instead of avoiding fear or anything that made me feel fear….I would embrace it! I would actually flip it around and think about what I wanted to have happen instead.
There is a big difference in results when you pay attention to the wins in every situation…here’s 3 tips to help you do that.
1. Set a target that excites you
You will always achieve more with a target in mind than no target at all. It sounds so common sense but at the same time, when you think about it…how many times do you or someone you know attempt to do something for the first time and hope for the best? I see this often, and I was one of those early on. I tried something and hoped I would get the results of others if I followed the path but it didn’t work. Why? I didn’t have a target that fit me or any emotion behind it.
I recommend setting a target that feels really juicy to YOU. Then, with that target in mind, break down the small steps needed to achieve the overall target.
Beware: Fear of making a mistake, comparing yourself to others, paying more attention to what to do and hoping it works versus the actual results and inspired actions.
2. Course correct as you go
This is an area that I emphasize because I believe that I can always improve upon what I am doing. I also believe that with clear intentions, as I move closer to a goal inspired guidance helps me reach it faster and in ways I may not have thought about when creating my plan.
I’ve learned that there are many ways to reach a goal and course correct as you are moving forward so I don’t wait to make adjustments.
Beware: Being afraid to adjust the plan and waiting until after the goal isn’t met to judge what happened. Not allowing for any crazy ideas so as not to risk failing. Being afraid to appear unprofessional by changing course. Deciding not to try it again if the goals weren’t met. Comparing yourself to others and feeling like a failure. Overworking and not having fun on the journey.
3. Look for the gold in every situation
This is my favorite tip, as I do believe there is a blessing in disguise in every challenge or what appears as a failure….if you look for it.
We learn from mistakes right? So anytime there is a challenge or things just aren’t going the way you thought they should…I would ask yourself, “What am I supposed to learn here?” Look for it and you will find the answer to where you could learn from the situation.
I have found this to be a great way to approach every new goal or situation as I am not afraid anymore of making a mistake. I look for the wins in any new endeavor knowing in my heart that I am learning all that I need to fulfill on my big dreams.
In approaching situations this way, I feel like I’m always winning! You can set yourself up to win every time too with these tips and looking for the gold!
Cheers to more wins in 2014!
